So last month, I was lucky to be a part of a Personality Development workshop that includes a make-up session with the past winner of Cosmetologie Philippines 2012, Miss Grace Liao.

She taught us basic guidelines about makeup from different skin types, brushes and products. But since she’s a professional, she teaches makeup by how professionals do it. And I assure you, the way she does makeup is how celebrities’ make-up artists do it too.

Here’s some of her products:

These are just few of her items, because I think she brought 3 luggage of make-up with her

That’s me doing my own make-up while listening to Ms. Grace’s instruction.

We were asked to do our own makeup, by following her and looking at how she does it step by step to her model at the front. She also supervises how we do it and we also get to use her make-up. That’s the reason she brought a lot, yes?

Now this is how the makeup turned out:

That’s me with Ms. Grace by the way.

In the after photos, the make-up is already retouched by Ms. Grace, but the finished product that I did was very close. I’m really shocked too that I created a beautiful makeup but just goes to show how high quality brushes can extremely improve one’s makeup.

My make-up skills had improved tremendously after the workshop. But I don’t have much money to buy the high end brands we used during our session with Ms. Grace, so I asked her for some cheaper alternatives. And this is what I bought and is now my make-up routine:

After my skin care routine (that would be another blog entry), I prep my face with Olay natural white fairness cream, any moisturizer will do, then for my undereyes, I use Garnier brightening eye roll on. And for the primer, I use Maybelline baby skin pore eraser.

(Splurge alternative: Smashbox primer)

After prepping, it’s time for foundation. I use Revlon colorstay liquid foundation in 110 ivory and Revlon colorstay 2-way foundation in 07 Medium Beige.

After applying foundation you need to conceal. Liquid concealer for under eyes and Cream concealer for blemishes.

Then set it with rice powder.

These are the brushes I use from L-R: Kabuki brush for setting, Foundation brush for liquid foundation/cream concealers, Oblique brush for contour/blush and Eyeshadow brush

After the skin base, we’re going to focus on the eyes. I do my eyebrows using marrionaud oblique brush and spoolie duo. My eyebrow palette is in2it eyebrows in ER01.

After the brows, I’ll do the lids. I apply the eyeshadow I want, then I line it with Maybelline gel liner in black using the same Marrionaud brush.

Then apply sparkly brown liner or eyeshadow stick to the bottom lid. I use Etude House bling bling eye stick in #10 Bear. The darkest brown.

Then apply mascara on the top and bottom lashes and apply falsies. A girl like me really need falsies because I have these short sparse lashes.

Then apply your favorite blush and lipstick in the same color tone. Like if you’re wearing peach, use peach lipstick, and so on and so forth.

Just to show you a picture on how I look like when I do my own make-up, here’s a photo.

I also did my own hair and makeup for MEG magazine’s 15th anniversary, If you want to see my look click here.

Will update my make-up routine soon and will do another blog post about skin care.
